On Tuesday, December 16, 2025 Argiro Xilas, age 95, passed away peacefully with family by her side. Beloved wife of the late Gus "Kosta" Xilas of 63 years, late sister Mary Mamatas (Koklanaris), she survived by; children Alexa (Chris) Cameron, Jimmy (Rini) Xilas and Denise Raftis; and grandchildren John, Andy (Alex), Arianna, Alexandra, Anastasia (Yianni), Constance, and Christiana.
Argie was born July 20th, 1930 to Andrew and Despina Koklanaris in Pittsburgh, PA. Raised in Monessen, PA with her sister, many cousins and Greek-Ikarian community. Argie graduated from Monessen High School and was ranked #3 in her class. In 1958, she married Kosta alongside her sister and Gus Mamatas in a double ceremony wedding. Together Argie and Kosta built their home in Edgewood where they raised their children and shared many cherished family memories. She was a homemaker and a career woman, beginning her career as a record keeper in the metallurgical department at Blooming Mill and concluding her career as an insurance appraiser at Hill, Rogal and Hamilton. She was a long-standing member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral and the Pan Icarian Brotherhood.
She was a soft, loving presence in all of our lives. She did not need to speak loudly for you to feel her love and compassion, it was shown through how she listened and supported the people she loves. She was a faithful, intelligent, kind, and humble woman, always seeking harmony and holding the highest patience and love for everyone. She had a natural way of making you feel whole and at ease around her.
Argie never dyed her hair (people always questioned it), she enjoyed watching cowboy shows with Kosta, and spending time with her family and friends. She was happiest when baking and cooking, always sneaking cookies, cheesecake, and sweet treats. Her love for her husband was tender and loyal. We take comfort knowing that she is now at peace with her husband, parents and sister, watching over us. May Her Memory Be Eternal.
