Antonia (Colarelli) Sciulli

d. April 8, 2022

Age 79 of Dormont , passed away on Friday, April 8, 2022. Beloved wife of 59 years to the late Diodato " Dio" Sciulli. Daughter of the late Amato and Maria ( DeIuliis ) Colarelli. Loving mother of Carlo ( Deanna ) Sciulli, Antonio Sciulli, Dino ( Sabrina ) Sciulli, and Rosa Maria ( Shawn) Voyten. Dear Nonna of Jennifer Erin ( Zachary ), Andrew Joseph "AJ", Kennedy Marie, Kyle Thomas, Xavier Michael, Oliver Thaddeus, Robert Thomas, and Francesca Marie. Beloved sister of Nicola Colarelli and the late Domenico Colarelli. Antonia, known as Antoinette to her friends, was born in the village Pizzoferrato, in Abruzzo, Italy. She grew up in a house carved into the mountainside, in a time when folks collected their water from the mountain streams and raised livestock to survive. At the age of 18, she met Diodato Sciulli, who was in Italy on a return trip from Pittsburgh. The two married 45 days after meeting. Diodato returned to Pittsburgh, and Antonia made the trip to America on her own one year later. Once here she began raising her family, devoting herself to her husband and four children while working as a seamstress. Antonia had apprenticed as a seamstress under her aunt in Italy and quickly began a career in Pittsburgh doing repairs and alterations that would last the entirety of her life. She extended her services to friends and family alike with willing grace, a mark of Antonia's selfless nature. Of course, this most shined with her children and grandchildren; she was utterly dedicated to them. Family was everything. Antonia was the perfect Nonna and the human embodiment of unconditional love. Each grandchild was gifted multiple hand-crocheted "Nonna blankets" over the years, and Antonia's future great-grandchildren will look forward to all the blankets and gifts she had prepared for them in advance. Her love was transgenerational. Antonia was also the ultimate host, putting her needs aside for anyone who was under her care and preparing food that would even challenge Lidia. Her gnocchi, ravioli, spaghetti, and lasagna will be eternally unmatched. If Antonia loved you, she also worried about you, a sense that was perhaps trained by her husband's tendency to wander off and stress her out! The two enjoyed going on cruises later in life—despite how much Antonia had hated the boat ride to America—and was an exceptionally well-traveled woman. In Pittsburgh, Antonia was the master of public transportation. She was able to walk, take a bus, or take the T anywhere she needed, and she lived a life with no regrets (except perhaps that she never learned to drive). Antonia spoke to her children and grandchildren daily, and ended every phone call with an endearing "okay bye, bye, bye." Antonia will be sorely missed. She was beloved by her entire family and will live on in a special place in their hearts.
