Alice Rita Diven, our beloved matriarch and nurturer, passed away peacefully from our arms into the first impressions of morning, on Saturday, November 15th, 2025. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Major Daniel Charles Diven, (WWII and Korea). Together, they traveled that post-war world of the fifties and sixties with military assignments in Georgia, California, Germany and Japan, where she served extraordinarily as an Army wife raising their nine children. They eventually retired to Pittsburgh, the hometown of her husband, Daniel. She was the beloved sister of the late, Jack, Bobby, Richie, Charlie and Mary. Her incredible 96 years began in the nascent moments of the Great Depression in Philadelphia, where she learned the precious lessons of loving family, spirituality and community. With her sense of self-determination and strength, she went on to excel in basketball throughout high school, and eventually made it to the All-American Girl’s Basketball championships. Her passions included cooking for family, the art of Ikebana, anything Sinatra, and a fabulous panache for fashion. Think, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. She is survived in the hearts of her children: Georgianne (the late Richard), Patricia (Russell), Barbara (the late Peter), Christopher, Theresa (Max), Mark (Beth), Mary (Ronald), Patrick (Kelly) and Alice (Todd). And the hearts of her grandchildren: Danny, Christopher, Brian, Jesse, Stephanie, Amanda, Tara, Michael, Lauren, Patrick , Ian, Danny, Alex, Eric, Sam, Rick, Mark, Sean, Matthew, Jeremy, Nic, Shane, Adam and the late Mitchell. Also survived by her 22 great-grandchildren.
“…and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest”.
