Age 72, of Brentwood, passed on Wednesday May 1, 2024 after a 3-year battle with ascites cancer. Preceded in death was his wife of 45 years, Catherine (Bliss Reichert). He is survived by his loving sister, Mary Jo Rogoff and his aunt, Blondina Bellaver. “Big Al”, as he was referred to by close friends and acquaintances, was larger than life and loved and respected by all. For 30 years he worked for the Department of Corrections at the Allegheny County Jail, rising in the ranks from correctional officer all the way up to captain at retirement in 2006. After the age of 50, he received two Masters Degrees, graduating with high honors from Geneva College and then from the University of Pittsburgh. He later taught as a professor with the latter, as well as also teaching at La Roche University. During the pandemic, he was then teaching classes online associated with criminal justice. “Big Al” was Past Grand Master of the Masons, Pleasant Hills Lodge, as well as being inducted into the Brentwood Hall of Fame, his alma mater.
