Al Amelio

d. July 4, 2018

Al Amelio of Scott Township PA, passed away on July 4th, 2018. He was 87 years old. He was a member of the Greatest Generation and served our country proudly in World War II. A shoe repairman who married Mary Grace Amicone (deceased) June 19, 1954 in Pittsburgh PA.
Al is survived by three children; Al (Debbie) Amelio of Bethel Park, PA, William (Jamie) Amelio of Austin Texas, and Debbie (JM) Manion of South Fayette Township, PA. He is also blessed with 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandson; Nicholas, Anthony, Danielle, Austin, Cherry, Riley, Bronson, Avery, Tyler Manion, Cassandra Manion, and his great grandson – Lev.
Al truly lived the American dream. He was a first generation Italian American who served in the Army. After his service, he started his own shoe repair business that became a fixture in the South Hills of Pittsburgh. Everyone knew Al. He had an unbelievable follow-ship because of the quality of his work and his "customer first" attitude. He knew the meaning of hard work and ensured all his children and grandchildren knew it as well. He loved his family and enjoyed family time together. Many a challenging problem were solved around the kitchen table. Al loved golfing and beach time. His golf game wasn't that good. On one outing with his son, Bill, his tee shot veered sideways and almost ended Bill's promising career. He would spend hours traveling from Pittsburgh to the Outer Banks to go on vacation with Debbie and her family, imparting nuggets of wisdom along the way. Lil Al took over the shoe repair shop seven years ago and had the pleasure of Dad's humor and astuteness to details of the trade. Right up until his last day, he was still ensuring the books were correct and checks were paid. Dad was a stickler for details. He didn't miss a trick. When Mom's health was faltering, he showed all of us what it meant to have a servant mentality. He loved his wife, Mary, dearly and took great care of her during her final months. He demonstrated to all of us what family and true love really means.
